What is the PA Fish-In?

The PA Fish-In is an annual gathering of like-minded fly fishers for a week of great people...great fly fishing and great food! The Fish-In is open to all anglers. The Fish-In takes place each spring scheduled aroundcentral PA's famous "Bug Week".  Beginners and first-timers are warmly welcomed.

 

How does the Fish-In Work?

Fish-In anglers coordinate their activities out of a main house affectionately called "The Farm" located in Waterville, PA.  Click the following link for information about "The Farm"  http://www.pacreeksidefarm.com/  Some anglers choose to stay at "The Farm". others camp on-site...some stay at one of the many local accommodations. 

 

Fish-In anglers gather each morning at "The Farm" for an awesome fisherman's breakfast and a little planning.  Lunch, is up to you. Don't miss the "Shore Lunch Day" where everyone meets up for some mid-day fun and fellowship. Many anglers fish the entire day...some fish the morning hatch then return to t"The Farm" for lunch (or a nap). Just about everyone fishes the evening hatch until dark. Dinner is as  impressive as breakfast. After dinner there is plenty of fly tying... beverage drinking and all-round good natured BS'ing. Plans are made for the next day's fishing.. We culminate the week with a Fisherman's BBQ and Campfire at "TheFarm"

 

Who attends the Fish-In?

Each year the Fish-In hosts between 10 and 25 anglers.  The PA Fish-In encourages first- timers and beginners. New anglers who "give it a try" always come back! While most anglers stay the week, some come when they can and stay for as long as they can. This year we are offering a specail Fish-In Weekend Package for anglers wishing to give the Fish-In a try.  Check the info in the left hand column of this page for the details.

 

Food...Accommodations and Cost

Limited space is available at "The Farm"" on a first come-first serve basis (deposit required).  Reservations and prices are available by contacting Randy  at bigdadyrods@comcast.net  

 

Full week participation with lodging at "The Farm" generally runs between $100 and $150 per person. A price for meals (breakfast and dinner) without lodging for the week is available and generally runs between $40-$50 per person. Waterville offers a wide variety of accommodations from bed and breakfast's to cabin rentals and site camping. (See Links and Resources). Camping is also available in the spacious lawn area at "The Farm"

Fishing and Fly's

The Fish-In is timed to coincide with central PA's famous "Bug Week".  The fishing will vary widely with weather and water conditions. A basic 5 wt outfit set up to fish above and below the surface will generally work in most situations. Anglers have fished successfully with 3 wts on smaller creeks and 7- 8 wts on the Big Pine's larger sections. Watercraft are welcome.  As for fly's...each year the Fish-In hopes to hit the Green Drake hatch...so a variety of eastern spring imitations (dry and wet) will work. What to Bring

Fish-In anglers fish! We recommend anglers come prepared for both cool and hot weather conditions. Insect repellant and rain gear are essential as is a flashlight or headlamp.  Fly tying is encouraged...bring your vise and materials.  Higher water can lead to challenging wading conditions...a wading staff is recommended.
